3 Carpet Cleaning Hacks to Make Your Spring Cleaning go Right

carpet cleaning hacks

You’ve been cooped up in the house all winter, and it’s feeling a little stale, isn’t it? Well, spring is here, and it’s time to throw open those windows and bring a little freshness into your home. We’d like to help with 3 carpet cleaning hacks that take you beyond simple vacuuming and help your carpet feel cleaner than ever.

1. Remove Carpet Stains with an Iron

Did you know? You can use an iron and a clean cloth to get rid of unsightly carpet stains! First, vacuum the carpet to remove any dirt. Then, wet a clean cloth with a solution of one part vinegar to three parts water. Lay the moist towel on top of the stain. Then, apply a hot iron. As you move the iron, the stain will start to life — like magic. Try it!

2. Use Baking Soda and Essential Oils to Freshen Any Room

Why buy Febreze when you can make your own carpet deodorizer and give your carpets a new level of freshness in your favorite scent? To make this happen in your home, simply add 10 or 15 drops of any essential oil to a 16-oz box of baking soda. You’ll want to mix it up so that the oils are completely absorbed. We recommend storing the mixture in a glass container to use over and over. When you’re ready to freshen up your carpet, sprinkle the mixture on your floor, wait about 10 minutes, and then vacuum.

3. Fluff Your Carpet Using These Techniques

When you’ve had the same carpet for awhile, it can look like it’s been marched over, stomped down, and worn out. However, there are ways to fluff it up and get it looking like new. One weird technique is to let an ice cube melt into any “dents” in the carpet. Once the water has soaked in, use a soft towel to blot up any remaining moisture. Next, lay the towel on top of the area and gently run a hot iron over it. When the fibers are dry, use your hands to fluff up the spot of carpet. Another technique? When you see a bad spot, use a solution of vinegar and water to spray the hardened or stained area. As you blot the stain with a towel, use a spoon to encourage the carpet fibers to stand up. As the carpet dries, you’ll see the difference.
